My Tribute

Note from the author:  I wrote this as a tribute to my father who fought in the Pacific in WW II and my brother-in-law who was badly burned in Viet Nam. They and their families were forever affected.

They grow the way of any child
Some suffer, some not much
In cities, towns and farmlands
Some with a gentle touch

But world events do pull them
From everything they know
And hurl them through a nightmare
That shapes them as they grow

God's rules are lost among the horror
That power mongers drive
For comrades, self and those they love
They struggle to survive

So on the day of battle
Or forty years away
Speak to God of thanks and praise
A soldier died today
